Mount Moriah Baptist Church (12/1963)

Our Legacy began in the year of 1913 when a group of Baptized Believers, led by the Reverend W.H. Brown, creatively disagreed with the Providence Baptist Church and founded the Little Rock Baptist Church.

The official origin of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church occurred in April 1915, when the Reverend Brown and congregation of the "Church With A Vision of God" decided on the present name. He pastored until his death on June 23, 1918.

A few months later, the Reverend T.T. Gholston came to the Church as its minister. His resignation on February 6, 1925, dissolved some of the unity and caused dark clouds of confusion to hover over the membership. However, the constant prayers, continuing fellowship, and observance of the Church Ordinances kept the flickering light of hope shining through these dark clouds.

The Reverend C.H. Holland of Newnan, Georgia, was used by God, with his administrative abilities and Christian character to dispel the clouds of confusion and move the Church on an upward trend. Under his leadership, the first Church was built on the present site, moving the congregation from the old site of Greensferry and Humphries Street.

As the Shadow of Death faded, the Reverend R. Julian Smith was chosen to lead the Church on April 17, 1947. This pastorate was also tremendously successful. The parsonage was built, study units were added, and additional seating space in the Main Nave was acquired. New methods of Church administration were instituted.

The Reverend Howard W. Creecy, Sr. came to the loving care of our church as Pastor on July 1, 1962, from the First Missionary Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama. Under Reverend Creecy's progressive leadership, many new members from all sources have come to this fellowship and the Church building was completely renovated. Most of all, a deeper meaning and dedicated mission was given our fellowship through his preaching and pastoring. Reverend Creecy tendered his resignation as Spiritual Leader on February 3, 1991.

In the year 1992, Mount Moriah elected its sixth pastor, Reverend Orlando K. Winters. Reverend Winters and his family left the cold winters of Canton, Ohio and rolled into the warm hearts of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church family. Reverend Winters brings to Mount Moriah many years of convention involvements and religious teaching experiences. During his tenure, he has been successful in his quest to establish the 7:45 A.M. Sunday Worship Service, Praise Team, Shekinah Glory a young adult choir, the Saints of Silence, youth Mime Ministry, Men's Ministry, Senior's Minsitry, Children's Church, and the "Stand The Storm CD". His accomplishments also include: the Annual Day of Jubilee, the Barnabas Ministry which visits the sick, the reinstitution of the feed the hungry ministry at The Samaritan House which now feeds the community and distributes groceries, and, finally, the reactivation of the Board of Christian Education.
